As a founding member of the World Diamond Council, Andrew also contributed to the industry's work towards the Kimberley Process - the international certification scheme established to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate rough-diamond trade.

Andrew Coxon's career has been shaped by a simple fascination: understanding what gives a diamond its extraordinary beauty - and what causes that beauty to disappear.
His career in the diamond industry has taken him from the science and grading of diamonds to education, publishing and innovation, completing his career as President of the DeBeers Institute of Damonds.
His knowledge of diamonds led him to co-author Diamonds: Rough to Romance with renowned Japanese gem expert Yasukazu Suwa, a book exploring the journey of a diamond from its natural rough form to the finished jewel.
But it was the everyday experience of seeing diamonds lose their brilliance that led Andrew to his most unusual invention.

In Diamonds: Rough to Romance, Andrew Coxon and Yasukazu Suwa explore the remarkable transformation of diamond - from its natural rough form to the polished gemstone that eventually becomes a piece of jewellery.
Published in 2010, the 128-page volume brings together detailed knowledge and photography to reveal the characteristics and beauty of diamonds throughout this journey.
For Andrew, understanding the journey of a diamond has always been inseparable from understanding its final beauty.
From Diamond Expert to Inventor
The invention began with something deeply personal.
When Andrew proposed to his wife, he gave her what he believed was the most beautiful diamond in the world.
Then, as she wore it, something became apparent. Even an exceptional diamond can lose its brilliance surprisingly quickly through everyday contact with skin, hand cream, soap and oils.
His wife’s response was simple:
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could just wipe it clean?”
THE INVENTION
Andrew knew that the answer had to begin with the diamond itself.
The principle that diamond can be polished with diamond was already well established. The challenge was to translate that principle into something entirely different: a practical, precise and effortless way to care for a finished diamond while it was still being worn.
That became the focus of Andrew’s invention.
Through development and refinement, he created a patented technology using extremely fine natural diamond particles within a specially developed wipe - bringing the unique properties of diamond to the surface of the finished jewel.
